 Selfless acts heartening

Selfless acts heartening

16/08/2008 1:00:00 AM
AT 7pm on Monday, August 8, there was what sounded and then looked to be a horrific car smash out the front of my house in Pemberton Street.

I headed to one of the cars with hesitation, thinking this is going to be just awful, confronting what I thought would be a car full of seriously injured people; and with smoke and fumes it also looked really dangerous.

What unfolded in front of me in the next couple of seconds/minutes in what looked to be an impending emergency was simply amazing.

Neighbours had rushed to help, motorists had stopped cars and jumped out to help, and as I looked up there were people standing selflessly in the middle of the dark, very wet road flagging down motorists to stop to avoid injuring themselves or cause further damage to those who may be hurt.

Remarkably, apart from some people in deep shock, some badly damaged vehicles and a bit of property damage, it appeared that no one was seriously injured.

It was inspiring to see so many unselfish people rush to help their fellow citizens.

There is so much goodness within our community.

We just don’t hear enough about it, only about the idiots who try to ruin it.

Albury
