NO matter what you think about World Youth Day, it was refreshing to see thousands of people in good humour, enjoying music and each other’s company without needing drugs or alcohol to enjoy themselves.

The on-duty police commented their job was made easy without the usual alcohol and drug-fuelled violence.

If, as a direct result of WYD, even a quarter of the pilgrims returned to their homes, truly living out their lives in tolerance, forgiveness and joy, the world could only be a better place.
