Albury City young guns keep on firing

ALBURY United might be widely regarded as the most dominant Albury-Wodonga Football Association team of the past five years, but there’s a bunch of kids chasing that title.

The Albury City under-12s continued their extraordinary recent run of success this season by taking out their fourth consecutive league championship.

It all began three years ago under the direction of coach John Ferguson and assistant coach Robert Brown when, as under-9s, the team lost only once in the 2005 season on its way to championship and premiership titles.

John Taravillo took control of the side in 2006 and has coached the talented youngsters to two more league championships and three premierships.

In that time they have played 76 matches for 72 wins, two draws and two losses.

It’s an ominous record and one that Taravillo attributes to positive club environment.

“I’m very proud of the boys,” Taravillo said.

“They train hard and put together the things we practise during the game and all players work hard to contribute and to improve their own skills.

“I’m also very fortunate to have a great bunch of parents who are very supportive.”
