PETER Robl will take a glimpse into his future at Randwick today with two mounts for emerging thoroughbred player Patinack Farm.
While Rollins and Goldlago appear modest chances, they will signal an unofficial start to Robl’s appointment as Patinack Farm’s No.1 jockey.
The Benalla jockey last week agreed to terms with Patinack Farm’s owner Nathan Tinkler and is expected to sign off on the deal within the next few days.
And once his freelance bookings are completed after Saturday’s Epsom Handicap meeting at Randwick, Robl’s first commitment will be to Patinack-owned horses.
But he still hopes to ride for trainers like Clarry Conners.
It was Conners who was instrumental in convincing Robl to try his luck in Sydney earlier this year.
“Obviously Patinack won’t have runners in every race so there will still be opportunities to pick up outside rides,” Robl said.
Rollins and Goldlago are prepared at Newcastle by Jason Coyle, one of a growing list of trainers Tinkler has engaged to prepare an expanding team of racehorses.
Still a maiden after six starts, Rollins finished midfield at Newcastle on September 17 but was an Eagle Farm placegetter as a late-season two-year-old during July.
The three-year-old steps out against high-priced colt Seventh Reason in the Chanteclair Handicap (1550m).
Seventh Reason, a Sadler’s Wells colt out of the AJC Australian Oaks winner Sunday Joy, went through the 2007 Magic Millions sale ring for $2 million.
The colt, trained by Gai Waterhouse, has trialled seven times since November without winning.
Goldlago will be having her second run after a spell in the Gunsynd Handicap (1100m).
She resumed and finished midfield in a strong provincial sprint race during the Newcastle Gold Cup carnival.
Robl will also ride two Patinack horses at Randwick on Saturday.
He will take the mount on Litter in the group 2 The Shorts (1100m) and $800,000 yearling sale purchase Onemorenomore in the Listed Breeders Plate (1000m).
