EXCITING Corowa-Rutherglen youngster Tim McIntyre will play for SANFL club Sturt next season.
McIntyre, 19, is on the comeback trail from a knee reconstruction after the serious injury, suffered in the pre-season, ruined his year.
The former Murray Bushrangers’ goal-sneak was linked to rival SANFL club Port Adelaide but said he would sign with the Two Blues.
“I’m going to go over there and try to play some good footy for a few years,” he said.
“You can always come back and play O and M later on.
“My knee is coming along well, I’m training real well now — towards the end of the year I was training for about five weeks.
“It will be ready to go for the pre-season.”
McIntyre said he will move to Adelaide in October, where he will finish his building apprenticeship.
He is likely to live with former Murray Bushrangers teammate Daniel Boyle, who is yet to have his rookie contract renewed by AFL club Port Adelaide.
“It has been a good experience with Peter Tossol coaching at Corowa,” McIntyre said.
“It would have been good to play more under him.”
The Roos are also sweating on the services of Morris medallist Jake Ryan and star midfielder Nic Raines who are attracting a mountain of interest from rival clubs.
Raines will travel through Europe in the coming weeks but is not expected to return to Corowa-Rutherglen, while Ryan will make a decision based on work commitments.
Veteran key position player Richard Ambrose retired after the Roos bowed out of the finals series in straight sets while ruckman Brendan Eyers could join him.
Disgruntled ruckman Adam Way is being targeted by O and M rivals including Wodonga Raiders and is not expected to remain at the Roos.
Way made himself unavailable for selection on the eve of the Roos’ first semi-final against Wodonga.
Meanwhile, former North Albury wingman Luke Rhodes is being strongly linked to a return to the Hoppers.
Rhodes was a member of AFL Canberra club Belconnen’s grand final team which was defeated by one point in a thrilling grand final against the Sydney Swans.
