Visitors dominate in Beer Olympics

STEINS clinked in Albury on Saturday to celebrate the first Soden’s Hotel Oktoberfest.

Organiser Liam Willoughby said the event had been a great success, with all 300 of the special beer glasses selling.

“We were a bit nervous about how people would respond to it, but it was a really good day and we’ll definitely do it again” he said.

Players from the Greensborough under-19s football team, in Melbourne’s north-east, proved skilful off the field.

The tourists took out the festival’s Beer Olympics, which featured diverse games including “beer pong”, “hide the sausage” and “monkey chug”.

“The beer games were a riot,” Mr Willoughby said.

The Melbourne boys ended up being too good for the locals, but a few teams have vowed to come back with a bit more practice under their belts for next year.”

Mr Willoughby also applauded former Wodonga band White Boyz Can’t Funk, who helped entertain the crowds.

“It’s great to see a local band doing so well,” he said.

“They are a talented bunch of kids who will go a long way.”
